Life With My Boy: All Things Big & Beautiful

Fresh Coconut from Grand Ma’s farm

It’s amazing how simple the life of a child is, I believe that’s what makes them so so cute.

Anyway, a senior friend of mine was travelling recently, my son and I were hanging out with her and she asked him what he would like as a gift. Guess his response?

‘Ehm…. ehm… Sweet, biscuit, Coconut…’

At this point I playfully interjected.

‘Ikem, won’t you ask for a new bicycle or a big toy car that you can drive?’

Well, the boy just stared at me like I was speaking French. LOL

A few days later, his Aunty, Chioma still asked him what he wanted and I hoped he would at least ask for something tangible. Well, guess what made the list?

Your guess is as good as mine…

‘Biscuit, Sweets (not even Chocolate!) Coconut…’ (Coconut bikonu?)

I just gave up. No need to bother this boy.

Life With My Boy: A Birthday Story…

wpid-ikem.jpgPictured above is Ikem mimicking his Dad. This was September 13th, 2014,  my husband’s birthday. We had gone for a prayer meeting in Church and towards the end of the meeting, the Pastor called out my hubby to pray for him.

We were all standing, forming a circle like our mother’s cooking pot, while my hubby walked to the centre, knelt down and raised his hands as all the Church members prayed.

Next thing we saw, Ikem simply walked to the centre, knelt down besides his Dad and raised his hands up too. It was just so funny that the amateur photographer in me simply reached for my phone and started taking pictures.

LOL.

For the Love of Lord Handsome…

At some point in my life as a single lady, I wasn’t excited about marriage and as a result, I didn’t have wedding day plans or ideas. That was before he became a factor.

One day, I was seated in my office then at the MTN Walk-In Centre at Opebi and guess who walked in? Your guess is as good as mine.

It wasn’t the proverbial love at first sight for me, and for him; he wasn’t seeing me for the first time. Turns out that we were neighbours growing up (I was five years younger so I didn’t know him but knew his name).

We did become friends and I was impressed by the kind of guy he was and still is. Such a good heart, such faithfulness and loyalty, such humility and gentleness, yet firm and determined. Such unassuming and boyish nature, Wow!

Several years later, I was singing the lyrics of the famous hymn

‘To God be the Glory’

… it was on our wedding day! And have I been glad I got married to him?

No it’s not our anniversary again! LOL. It’s HIS birthday, my Lord Handsome got action.

Here’s to celebrating the man who celebrates me everyday, who has squelched every single fear I had, a man who has consistently loved me devotedly and unconditionally, who is never tired of saying ‘have you seen my wife?’ ‘have you met my wife?’ ‘You should meet my wife’.

Here’s to celebrating a man so committed to growth, love and relationships, who never tires of saying ‘I’m sorry’ even when I could be wrong (Wow! I just wiped a tear. LOL), whose anger never even lasts! And who has great skills at postponing our trips to the beach! Ha ha ha

I’m so grateful to God for bringing you into my life. I love you today and forever.

God has blessed you already, He has already kept you and His countenance is forever shining upon you.

Happy birthday Sweetie.

Life With My Boy: Through The Eyes Of A 3 Year Old

It was my cousin’s birthday recently. This my cousin stays with me and helps take care of my son, so they are very close.

On the morning of her birthday, I got my son who is now fluent in singing the Happy Birthday song to sing for her. After he was done singing, the following conversation ensued:

Mum: Ikem, what birthday gift will you give Aunty Chinenye?

Ikem: I will, I will give Aunty Chinenye  A BIG KINGDOM!

Mum: Wow! Which Kingdom will you give Aunty Chinenye?

Ikem: I will give her my Kingdom

At this point, I burst into laughter but it also got me thinking, the fact that he believes he owns a kingdom and was willing to give it all out. LOL.

Where are your own designs?

Growing up, there was this popular Igbo sung that girls used to sing. I can’t quite remember all the lyrics but it’s something like this:

i ne m anya n’anya, eye shadow (If you look at my eyes you see Eye Shadow)

i ne m anya n’onu paint onu (On my lips you find lipstick)

And the song goes on to describe everything the girl is wearing.

It’s basically a song for bigs girlz! In other words, I’m not at your level kind of thing.

Today, we see the same thing play out again and again. We jostle for Louboutin Shoes, Mongolian Hair, Gorgio Armani perfumes, Versace wears, it’s designers all the way.

In one of his audio excerpts, Pastor Chris asked a profound question: ‘Where are your own designs?’

At least Genieve Nnaji now has a clothing line and several others are creating their own designers stuff too.

What about you?

Are you going to be remembered for just wearing other peoples designs?

You might not own a design per se but I’m sure that there’s something original that you can give to the world or to the body of Christ.

There’s got to be something that only you can do in the way that only you can do it. That’s how to leave your footsteps in the sands of time.

So, as you spray on your designers perfume and dress up your children in labels, take time to think again, what have I created so far? What can I create today? It might just be a simpler way of filling forms in your office to make reporting easier, it’s called innovation.

So take some time this year and create a design for yourself.

Cheers!
