Help!!!!! I’m a Ghost…

Ho! Ho! Ho! Ho! Ho!

I laugh in a deep cracking baritone, slowly drawing the syllable of each ‘Ho!’

My hands are raised and my wrists are drooping with my fingers extended. My body is drapped in white and every inch of my brown face is covered with white powder. Scary enough?

‘Ho! Ho! Ho! Ho! Ho!’ I scream in an increasing innuendo…

Okay! Back to reality.

I’m a Ghostwriter.

Not that kind of fake ghost shown in cartoons. LOL

A Ghostwriter is someone who helps you write your article or book and gets paid for doing it. In order words, if you have a book idea but not the time to write it, you could share your thoughts with me, I write the book on your behalf and it get’s published with your name.

Scary right? Absolutely not.

So it’s time to live your dream of publishing those book titles and telling your stories.

Life With My Boys: Meet Boy 2

Ehee! Mama boys!”

Hey! Two boys?!!!”

“Wow! You are managing three men now!”

And many other comments that have poured in since we had Okem our second son. So there you go, Ikem now has a brother. Glory to God!

I had to tell Ikem at about 3months that a baby was growing in my tummy as that was the only way I could stop him from trying to jump on me, I silently hoped that he would ‘forget’ to announce the news to people.

Well, they had an open day in his school shortly afterwards and as I sat in his class with his teachers, classmates and another parent , he went like:

Ikem: Mummy, is a baby growing in your tummy?

Me: Shhhh!!!

Ikem: (In a louder voice and addressing one of his teachers) Miss Blessing a baby is growing in my Mummy’s tummy!

Ye!

After the lovely surprise baby shower organised by my darling sisters and friends which Ikem refers to as his baby’s birthday, Ikem stopped me and said;

‘Mummy, who permitted Aunty Chioma to celebrate my baby’s birthday?’

Of course I didn’t have an answer. Which kain question be that?

One evening, after baby Okem and I came home from the hospital, he belched after a feeding session and Ikem seeming a bit unsure said in a quiet voice:

“Mummy, baby belched, he should say excuse me, no?

I really couldn’t hold the laughter as I explained to him what he must have already figured out; baby cannot talk at least for now.

LOL .

Okem is 7 months and counting, his full name- Okemdinma means I have a goodly heritage.  They are both getting along pretty well though Okem has his own unique personality.

Welcoming baby Okemdinma to The Storytela. 🎉🎉🎉🎊🎊🎊🎆

Life With My Boy: Time No Be Money o!

Ikem's Old School Costume

Growing up, we heard the famous lyrics of the song:
Time na money o! Time na money.

In plain English, Time is money.

Well, for my four year old, Time is whatever and whenever he wants it to be.

Anything that took place between yesterday and when he was born is referred to as having happened yesterday. So consider this classic:

Ikem: Mummy, yesterday, we went to the Jungle and we see Monkeys jumping jumping from one tree to the other…

Me: (Surprised and thinking real hard) Yesterday??? But we were home yesterday. ..

That was when it hit me, we had gone to the ‘Jungle‘ in December (our trip to NCF). LOL. Having understood, it helps me explain to people when he says something like ‘yesterday when I was a baby…’ stuff like that.

I thought we were just battling with the past until the future came up. Here’s another classic:

Ikem: Mummy when are we going to Shoprite?

Me: Tomorrow

Ikem: Is this tomorrow?

Me: (LOLING) No this is today, tomorrow is the day after today.

Ikem: Aha! Yesterday, we went to Shoprite and I ride a horse and ….

Phew! This was something that happened earlier in the year, I just sat listening and nodding my head.

Well, if you say time is money, try explaining that to a four year old.

Take A Trip To NCF Lagos

The weekend is here once again but most interestingly, the holidays are very much around the corner. Thinking of where to go with your friends, spouse or the kids? Well, if you would be in Lagos this period, the National Conservation Foundation should be on your list of places to go. It is located just after Chevron roundabout on Lekki-Epe Expressway.

For ten years, I wished to go to this place, yeah right, 10 solid years! I heard about NCF Lekki in 2005 from my sister and I kept saying I would go, I would go and before I finally got around to going, 10 years had passed and by this time, I had a small son tagging along with me.

The NCF is a fun place to be, I particularly loved the Forest Reserve (or Jungle according to my son) with the many many Monkeys swinging from tree to tree and even crossing the walkways.

The new Canopy Walkway was a big hit too. It’s the longest in Africa at about 22.5 metres at the highest point above the ground and 401 metres long. Only ages 14 upwards are allowed on it so my son couldn’t go but since we had other people with us, he stayed with his aunt while I enjoyed the climb with a friend.

After the Canopy Walkway, we got to a place that looked like a park and games arena but apparently it hasn’t been so well maintained so we really couldn’t play much apart from lounging on wooden chairs and my son did try to do some climbing.

Happens to be that refreshments weren’t sold there, oh yeah! We were quite thirsty and a bit hungry but praise be to God, a good Samaritan who had more than enough to drink with his family gave us two cans of Ginger Beer which we shared. LOL.

We watched a few fishes swimming in a pond, then traced our way back and took some pictures of the giant tortoise of over 100 years old, Then the Peacocks that refused to spread their lovely tails for us.

All in all, it was a great outing which cost just 200 naira per head and an extra 1000 naira per head for the Canopy Walk-Way Climb. I had looked forward to climbing the Tree House but it was boarded up at this time, I do hope it’s fixed and re-opened soon or another one built.

So have you been to NCF? What was your experience like? Planning to go there soon? You may visit http://www.ncfnigeria.org/ for more information.

Cheers

Life With My Boy: When Your Baby is A Daddy..

image

So we were dressed up in our Sunday clothes, heading down the staircase for the morning drive to Church. My husband travelled at this time so I held Ikem’s hand as we walked. A few steps later, the following conversation started between us;

Ikem: You are a Mummy and I’m a Daddy

Me: No, you are not yet a Daddy, a Daddy is someone that has a child.

Ikem: I’m a Daddy

Me: Do you have a child?

Ikem: Yes I have a child.

“Who is your child?” I asked, feeling cool with myself as I was very sure he would not have an answer.

“Muna!” He responded mentioning his cousin’s name.

“No, Muna is your cousin.” I corrected him

“No Mummy, Muna is my child, he is my child of God”. He responded coolly and calmly as he pulled open the Car door.

Ye! I really underestimated this boy…

The End.
